Four LHS Students Score
Big in 2008 State UIL Solo & Ensemble Competition (May 24-26, 2008)
The results are in from the 2008 Texas
State UIL Solo & Ensemble Competition held on May 24th and 26th at The University of Texas campus in Austin
at the Bates Recital Hall (see related story and photo below), and LHS Students scored extremely
well. Parisa Zaeri tops the list, nailing a highest honors "1" with her piano performance of Claude Debussy's
Prelude (from Pour le Piano) . Claire Ferguson and Patrick Larsen performed
their cello duet of Friedrich Dotzauer's Three Sonatas, Op. 103, landing them a solid "2".
The judge commented that he was quite impressed, especially noting that both are freshmen. Finally, Taryn
Denton scored a very respectable "3" with her solo performance of Franz Hoffmeister's Concerto
in D Major on Viola.
All of these students are to be highly commended for their acheivements, which represents
the pinnacle level of UIL State competition each year. It is an impressive honor simply to be selected for the State
finals, much less to have all scored so very well. We congratulate all four, and wish them the best in the future.
Additional details can be found on the UIL TSSEC web site by following this link. (Note: Christian Choi was also selected to participate in the State UIL finals, but unfortunately was unable to
attend due to a schedule conflict).

all three judges in each of the two competitions gave their highest marks. Very few schools achieve this kind of impressive
results. Congratulations go to all of the Varsity Orchestra members, and to Mr. Deering for this outstanding achievement!
